  Robert Stewart, born about 1622, has not. been biographed, beyond an assertion of a family historian that he never married. We cannot be sure of this, because, in the rivalry for preferment, men are prone to obliterate possible contenders. Robert's father was rich, owning a number of farms in the counties of Tyrone and Donegal, and as likely as not he gave or willed one of these to Robert in fee simple, and Robert lived the life of a landed gentleman.
